"Why do we Spay our Pet Dog and Cats" / ELECTIVE OVARIOHYSTERECTOMY

WHY DO WE SPAY?

Elective ovariohysterectomy or commonly known as spay is a routine surgery performed to prevent heat cycles and unwanted pregnancy in dogs and cats.  This procedure by far is the most humane way to curb cat and dog population done in different countries.

Primary medical benefits: include prevention of the pyometra-a life threatening condition as shown below:

prevention of ovarian or uterine tumors.

and aids in reduction of incidence of mammary gland tumors.

Maximum benefit observed  especially when done at an early age for a pet. This is usually done on pets before they get to their first "heat" or before 6 months of age. The procedure can also be the best option to address dystocia  or when pet has difficulty in giving birth (CS is another option but to prevent unwanted births and recurrence, I go for the one geared for birth control), severe uterine bleeding, and vaginal prolapses.

Safety and Prevention:  This will keep your pet healthy and at the same time lessen their wanting to roam. Less chances of running away from home, less contact with other animals especially other cats that harbor diseases.

Cost. Lastly, you also have reduced your chances of visiting and paying your veterinarian by avoiding trauma that can happen when cats go stray.

Do not contribute to the unwanted
batch of kittens or pups on city streets.
