The goal of providing intravenous fluid is to prevent further deterioration of the animal in disease conditions. 

 

Intravenous access of medication is considered as the fastest way to deliver medication to the body.  Certain antibiotics and anesthetics works best under this route.

Provide nutritional support to debilitated animal and prevent shock.  

Procedure is less stressful to the patient since medication are given at the injection port alone rather than receiving multiple injections

Intravenous complications like inflammation of the veins also can arise so a watchful eye is necessary.  

This is the reason your veterinarian will not let your pet go home with it.

This intervention for your pet will cost you money but as a pet owner, one should understand why there is an urgency for this type of medication

I want to make emphasis on ORAL MEDICATIONS.  

Do not get me wrong

ORAL MEDICATION is not inferior.  If our pets can take the tablets and suspension, of course as a veterinarian I will always welcome it AND take that route.

FELINE NUTRITION
