PET TRAVEL TO EUROPEAN COUNTRIES from SAUDI ARABIA

 




REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAVELING

This is based on my experience working as Veterinarian in Saudi Arabia.  Changes can happen so fur parents should be alert on any additional requirements.  Below are the minimum requirements that you should have for your travel to European countries.  Kindly read on.


 PET PASSPORT 

(Known also as a Pet Vaccination Card)

This document is a requirement in all pet travels, which includes the following details:


DETAILS OF THE PET 

Basic details needed for pet identification. 

  • Name
  • Breed 
  • Species
  • Date of Birth
  • Photo of the animal


STEP#1   MICROCHIP 

  • This is provided by your Veterinarian/Veterinary Clinic
  • This is usually done before or on the day Rabies vaccination will be given especially if pet will be traveling.
  • Cats and Dogs should have a 15 digit, ISO 11784/11785 Microchip implanted subcutaneously on the shoulder blades.  

STEP#2   VACCINATIONS

CAT VACCINATIONS
RABIES VACCINATION
NOTE: pets must be at least 12 weeks old  to acquire Rabies vaccination.


EUROPEAN UNION required vaccinations for dogs and cats
for Dogs:  DHLPP and Rabies vaccinations  
for Cats:   FRCP and Rabies vaccinations


Importing your pet with updated vaccinations is the requirement.  Your pet should be vaccinated least more than 30 days and less than 12 months - signed by a duly licensed veterinarian


STEP#3   RABIES TITER TESTING 
MANDATORY FOR CATS AND DOGS
This test is performed in accredited laboratories outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Usually takes two months now to get blood results.  Usually the veterinary clinic will relay results to the pet owners.
  • Blood collection is carried out 30 days after the date of vaccination.
  • Mandatory quarantine at home of 3 months starting from blood collection date and until the date of import.
  • The pet must have a level of neutralizing antibody to rabies virus in serum equal to or greater than 0.5 IU/ml.

DEWORMING for DOGS

Tapeworm treatment to be performed within day 1 or 5 DAYS prior to travel especially for dogs. 

STEP 4:  OBTAIN TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

1.)  ANIMAL HEALTH CERTICATE



Visit your veterinarian to assist you in filling up this ANNEX III certificate no more than 10 days before traveling to EU


#2  EXPORT PERMIT / HEALTH CERTIFICATES 

Obtained from the Importing Country (in our case Saudi Arabia)
Licensed government veterinarian as signatory on the health certificates obtained at Ministry of Agriculture, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
One can process this document directly to the Agriculture department or have assistance from the private veterinary clinic or pet shipping companies.

Validity Period: 2 months
